Tour Program 7 DAYS – 6 NIGHTS

1st Day

In San Remo, dinner and overnight stay.

2nd Day. Nature Park of San Romolo

For the first day on your beloved mountain bike saddle, we have planned a quite challenging route, with the most beautiful single- tracks of the Nature Park of San Romolo – Monte Bignone (1300 m), where the ride is accompanied by truly breathtaking views.

Departure from San Remo heading for San Romolo, where you’ll climb up Mount Carparo, and then after passing the hills on the Monte Nero side you’ll coast from Ospedaletti back to SanRemo.

This route is of medium-high difficulty, approximately 40 km. long, and reaches a maximum height of 1259 m above sea level.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

3rd Day.

A highly scenic route near the city of San Remo.

This itinerary has one of the most challenging climbs in the area, the mythical “Croce della Parà-Bignone” fire barrier, followed by a very technical single-track. It rises first through shortcuts and consortium cemented roads, to reach the fire barrier track that leads to Monte Bignone (1300 m).

A single-track descent follows immediately through steps of stone slabs and rocks: for lovers of technical trails, this will be a real thrill. After completing the two paths, mule tracks lead to an asphalt road in the Baragalla area, and then on with the return to the hotel.

Path of high technical difficulty, medium endurance, maximum height 650 meters above sea level.

Return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

4th Day. Rest.

Day of rest off the bike, so we suggest visiting the famous Principality of Monaco. Before entering the city, we recommend a visit to the exotic gardens of Monte Carlo, rich in over 6,000 varieties of plants and cacti from around the world, which offers an unparalleled view of the coast.

Once near the port, you will have access to the fortress, the Old Town, where you can see the famous Oceanographic Museum and watch the traditional changing of the guard in front of the Palace of the Prince. This can be visited from May to October. Among artisan workshops and little stores, you can also dine in delightful bistros.

In the afternoon, you just have to stop at the elegant Place du Casino, with the possibility of chancing your luck at the green tables and slot machines.

Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

5th Day. The heights of Ospedaletti.

Back to the saddle, and ready to depart from the center of San Remo heading for the hamlet of San Romolo via paved roads and mule tracks. From here a beautiful single-track unfolds in the woods, all uphill until you reach the maximum height of 905 m of Mount Carparo, located near the city of San Remo and Ospedaletti.

Once at the top, be ready for the descent , which, all on a technical single-track, leads to the slopes surrounding the town of Ospedaletti. Through typical Ligurian stairways and mule tracks, you ride downhill until you take the Aurelia Way, then continue towards Sanremo.

Route of average technical difficulty, maximum height reached 900 meters above sea level, and a distance of about 35 km.

Return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

6th Day.

Today an interesting route, very scenic and worthwhile, which covers in part the old Down Hill of Bignone – San Romolo and two very beautiful and technical trails: “Scogli Rossi-Borello” and “Corbezzoli”.

It is a demanding trek because of the climb leading to the antennas of Monte Bignone, approximately 1300 mt. From here the Down Hill begins, a very technical descent that will leave all of you lovers of challenging single-tracks fully satisfied.

Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

This is a route of high difficulty.

Maximum height 1221 meters above sea level, about 33 km.

After breakfast, departure to the starting point.

The Historic Centers of San Remo with Italo Calvino

santuario madonna della costa sanremo

2 half days discovering a valuable and unprecedented San Remo

Calvino and San Remo. La Pigna of San Remo, dear to Italo Calvino, retains to this day the charm of a medieval village, and allows the more attentive visitor to discover an unsurpassed San Remo,  made up of winding streets and staircases, arches and buttresses, quiet and secluded  little squares. Led by an experienced guide, you can retrace the alleyways leading to the summit dominated by the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa, following the pages of the many stories by the famous author.

Bussana Vecchia, a village destroyed by the earthquake of 1891, has become an international tourist attraction thanks to the  community of artists who have settled there since the sixties. The village is not accessible by coach, but a scenic mule track allows easy access.

The historic center of Coldirodi is equally delightful – this is a village in the hills of San Remo, with its little square from the baroque era and an interesting art gallery housed in an old villa.

The Large Cetaceans of the Mediterranean

Whale watching - avvistamento cetacei mar ligure

1 full day and 1 half day to discover the cetaceans of the Ligurian Sea

During the months from May to October it is possible to leave from San Remo for a trip of approximately six hours to explore the Cetacean Sanctuary, which covers the stretch of sea between the Italian Riviera, Elba and Corsica, and aims to protect more than 2000 cetaceans belonging to eight different species, including the large whales of the Mediterranean, which populate the Ligurian Sea during the warm season.

The famous Oceanographic Museum of Monte Carlo, inaugurated in 1910 by Prince Albert I, hosts numerous species of preserved marine animals and models of ships and equipment used by pioneers in the exploration of the oceans. In the basement, the Aquarium offers visitors the fascinating spectacle of  exuberant marine flora and fauna. The museum, housed in the historic Fortress, allows visitors to approach the Principality of Monaco with a perspective both new and light years away from the  worldly fame that characterizes it.

The Via Julia Augusta and Greek-Roman Gaul

2 half days discovering the Italian Riviera and Greek-Roman Gaul

trofeo augusto

The route starts from Ventimiglia, where you can visit the remains of the Roman city of Abintimilium, crossed by the Via Julia Augusta, paved with white limestone, which intersected with the Decumanus Maximus.  There, you can visit the thermal baths,  the theater,  the splendid houses, the ancient living quarters furnished with rich mosaics and lavish furnishings and fittings,  including imported ones, recovered from archaeological excavations.

The trip continues to La Turbie, where it is possible to visit the Trophy of Augustus, an impressive Roman monument which is located 480 meters above sea level, now overlooking the Principality of Monaco. The monument was erected in the years 7-6 BC in honor of Emperor Augustus to commemorate the military expedition of 15 BC in which Drusus and Tiberius subdued 46 Alpine tribes, and it served to demarcate the border between Italy and Narbonese Gaul along the Via Julia Augusta.

Then, on to Nice: Nikaia, as it was christened by the Greeks who founded it, has a vast archaeological site dating from Roman times on the hill of Cimiez, with amphitheater, arena, thermal baths, and  an early Christian basilica surrounded by olive trees.  The site is home to the legendary jazz festival held each year.  In Cimiez you can also visit the Chagall Museum and Matisse Museum, of which we will speak later.

Medieval Italian Riviera

2 half days discovering the Middle Ages in the Italian Riviera

In the Middle Ages, the Italian Riviera,  threatened by the Saracens, witnessed the rise of stone villages perched on the slopes of the Maritime Alps:  today these villages are real open-air museums.

Taggia, a land with a tradition of olive oil production, has a beautiful old town, featuring the convent of San Domenico. The convent was founded at the wish of the Dominican Father Christopher of Milan in 1459 and contains many valuable paintings.

Dolceacqua, the pearl of Valle Nervia, is a delightful medieval town, enhanced by an ancient humpbacked bridge and by the ruins of the castle of the Doria, which has recently been restored and is used as a venue for concerts and events.

The Prehistory of the Riviera

museo delle meraviglie tenda

3 half days among the marvels of the prehistoric Italian Riviera

The Riviera has been inhabited since the dawn of history. A must-see is the Museum of Balzi Rossi, along the coast on the border between Italy and France; it is designed around the Barma Grande,  in which are preserved two tombs dating back to the Paleolithic age, while in the adjacent museum are preserved stone sculptures, wall carvings and many stone tools that were the accompaniments of everyday life.

An important stop in the discovery of local prehistory is the Museo delle Meravigle of Tenda, opened recently, and dedicated to the rock engravings of the Mount Bego region.  The museum tells the story of this heritage out in the open with a permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions.  Of great educational interest are the six life-sized dioramas illustrating the life of pastoral peoples from the Bronze Age to the present day.

From Tenda a hike can be planned along the trails of the Valle delle Meraviglie which is rich in petroglyphs and provides spectacular and unspoiled scenery.
