- 3rd
Day. The flower circuit.
-
In
the footsteps of a historical leg of 2001’s Giro d’ Italia: a
short yet tense circuit, including a variety of very long tracks,
which change within a few kilometres. An unusual itinerary, suitable
for classic climbers, which also offered chances to those who could
attack.
The itinerary starts along the Aurelia main road,
crosses Ospedaletti, Bordighera, Vallecrosia, Camporosso Mare and
then goes up the Nervia Valley heading to Dolceacqua and Isolabona.
It then turns towards Apricale (350 m ASL) and climbs up to Bajardo
(900 m ASL and first Mountain Gran Prix) to then carry on through
the Ghimbegna Pass (840 m ASL), San Romolo and then descend to
Sanremo crossing San Giacomo; it then continues uphill to Poggio (in
opposite direction to the Milan-Sanremo track) and Ceriana, once
again goes over the Ghimbegna Pass and crosses San Romolo to
approach Sanremo downhill for the second time to finish.
- Medium-high
technical difficulty track, 119 km.
-
Return
to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
-
4th
Day. Break.
-
We propose a relaxing break day to
spend learning more about the Riviera’s natural sights and tastes.
Transfer
to Dolceacqua, Andrea Doria’s hometown, and visit of the ruins of
the castle, the historical centre and the medieval bridge;
interesting opportunity to watch the screenings at the Visionarium
about life in the valley throughout all four seasons.
Do
not miss a tour of Dolceaqua’s Rossese DOC wine vineyards; you can
also book a sampling session at a wine cellar or have lunch in a
typical restaurant.
In
the afternoon, visit of the Hanbury
Gardens,
one of the most remarkable botanical gardens in the world. Founded in
1867 by Sir Thomas Hanbury, they were revamped by the University of
Genoa in 1983. The area covers 18 hectares, 9 dedicated to
spontaneous species and 9 to exotic flora. Special mention for the
plants from the Australian forests, the Japanese garden and the
Cicadee from the Far East.
At
end of tour, return to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
- 5th
Day. Along the “Classicissima”
roads.
Today’s
itinerary offers unique horizons. Special emotions are guaranteed by
the first part, following the Aurelia main road in the opposite
direction up to Imperia. The route then continues uphill to Tesio and
to the Ginestro Pass, Testico to then descend once again on the
Aurelia main road at the end of Mele Cape, in Marina di Andora. From
there on, better from the capes on, it is true Milan-Sanremo, with
the Cipressa loop and the mythical Poggio slope preceding the plunge
down to via Roma in Sanremo (the former finish) and to the Calvino
Promenade, where the great champions have been racing in recent
years.
- Medium
technical difficulty track, approx. 110 km.
-
Return
to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
-
- 6th
Day. The “Grande
Boucle”
roads.
-
How not go for a ride speeding
along the Cote d’Azur’s magical landscape? Start in Sanremo
following the Aurelia main road through Ospedaletti – Bordighera –
Menton – Cap Martine to reach the Principality of Monaco. Enjoy a
challenge along Montecarlo 2009’s Tour time trial track, which
mainly replicates the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit. The itinerary
then continues uphill to La Turbie, peak approx. 550 m above sea
level, to then lead back to start point.
-
Medium
difficulty track, approx. 90 km.
-
Return
to hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
