7 DAYS – 6 NIGHTS Travel Program

Day 1.

Arrival in San Remo, dinner and overnight stay; for your after dinner entertainment we suggest you try your luck at one of the gaming halls of the famous casino of San Remo.

Day 2. The Path of the Witches.

In the morning departure for the first leg of your tour in the Riviera of Flowers, which will unfold starting from San Remo, Arma di Taggia, to go up to the famous town of Triora, which offers remarkable landscapes, then Molini di Triora; once you have enjoyed these spectacular landscapes we return to San Remo.

Route of average difficulty: 50 km approx.
Gradient: from 0 to 700 m.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3. On the paths of the most classic routes.

The second day, we offer an impressively scenic journey along the famous Ligurian hills characteristic of the Milan-San Remo route, i.e. the Cipressa and Poggio. Along the way, you will be escorted from the sea and its beautiful landscapes through the hills you can see from the top of two hills in the beautiful village of the Riviera dei Fiori. The mostly flat course reaches its peak at the “Cypresses” with its 350 meters of altitude from the sea.

Route of average difficulty: 65 km approx.
Gradient: from 0 to 350 m.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4. Rest.

For the fourth day  you are off the bike in order to savor the beauty of San Remo, the old town “La Pigna”, the Old Port,  and the beautiful streets of the city center full of shops of all kind.   For lunch you can perhaps linger in a characteristic spot that will allow you to sample the local delicacies of Liguria.

In the afternoon a walk through the gardens and villas of the city is sure to satisfy you in terms of relaxation.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5. The coastal park of western Liguria.

After a day’s walking, once again cycling along the new bike path, starting from San Remo, along the road to San Lorenzo beside the sea with a chance to see wonderful landscapes. We will continue to Porto Maurizio, where still skirting the sea we will reach the halfway point and then take the main road and return to the city of flowers.

Path: Easy, about 50 km.
Gradient: 0 to 50 m.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6. The villages of the Ligurian Alps.

The last day in the saddle will be dedicated to exploring the hinterland of San Remo, passing through San Romolo, continuing to Apricale, Bayard, and then descending to Ceriana and making the famous descent of the Poggio.

Unlike previously this is a path that winds mainly through the inland hills, rich in places from where you can enjoy the beauties of the Riviera di Ponente, a perfect location for your souvenir photos!

Difficulty:  Path medium-high, 45 km.
Gradient: from 0 to 900 m.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7.

After breakfast, departure to the starting point.

Our offer includes:

• Accomodation in one of our hotels in double room with half board, including an afternoon snack and dinner.
• As an alternative residential accommodation or resort with accommodation only is offered.
• A typical lunch in a local spot during the rest day.

In the morning transfer to Triora,  the town known for its 23 mills and… its witches! This is not a matter of legend but of recorded history, as shown in the museum dedicated to them.
Scene of the feud of the Counts of Ventimiglia, and later  impregnable fortress of the republic of Genoa, Triora has ancient origins linked to the first battles between opposing factions. The town preserves its medieval appearance with notable examples of rural architecture and with portals carved in slate.
The remains of the ancient ruins are now an international tourist destination and one of the most celebrated of  the Ponente of the Italian Rivera.
Of particular interest will be the visit to the Museo etnografico e della stregoneria, where you can find yourself in 4 sombre halls where  a tragic chapter of local history was enacted in 1558  – a trial against a group of thirteen women, considered responsible for the famine that had plagued the the region the year before.  The section of the museum dedicated to ethnography, on the other hand, containing tools used by farmers, muleteers, carpenters and bakers, gives a  valuable glimpse into local daily life.

Lunch at a typical restaurant, where you can enjoy some of the local cuisine.

On the way back,  stop in the village of Molini di Triora to visit a laboratory specializing in the manufacture of slate,  an ancient stone, considered the “black gold of the Valle Argentina.” Next to the lab, you can also visit the workshop where various objects carved by a local artist are displayed.

Then, we continue to Taggia, an area of olive oil production, to visit the Casa Olearia Taggiasca, a new manufacturer of high quality extra virgin olive oil. The company has a factory of 200 square meters where you can visit the various departments, including one dedicated to packaging and storage. After the tour you can visit the elegant showroom in which you can taste the extra virgin olive oil and some typical products of our Riviera.

Finally, visit in the historic center to the monastery complex of  San Domenico. The monastery was founded according to the will of the Dominican Father Cristoforo of Milan in 1459 and contains the valuable works of  Ludovico, Antonio and Francesco Brea, Giovanni Canavesio and Emanuele Maccari, known as Macario.

4 DAYS – 3 NIGHT TOURIST PACKAGE

Arrival in the afternoon with check-in at the chosen hotel. Dinner at the hotel restaurant and free evening.

The walk that we propose for you on the first day takes place in the Argentina Valley. From Arma di Taggia you will head towards the Argentina Valley. The path starts from the junction near the village of Gavano, just before arriving at the village of Molini di Triora. There is a rugged hill to walk up on paved and then unpaved road, towards Grattino until you reach Passo Drego. You can then reach Molini di Triora on an enjoyable, rather long single track. The total length of the excursion is more or less 20 Km over mixed terrain. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

The starting point of the walk, which takes place in the upper Nervia Valley, is Colle Melosa (1541 m), placed high above  the ancient villages of Pigna and Castelvittorio. You will go up to the refuge of Monte Grai, afterwards you will continue going up in the shadow of the 2000 m height of Mount Pietravecchia. After passing the southern part of the Toraggio Mountain you will begin to go down through a wonderful path that has been dug inside the rocks as far as the Gola dell’Incisa where you keep on going through the passage of the Alta Via. Finally, an unpaved road to the Grai refuge will allow you to return to Colle Melosa. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

In the morning we suggest a quiet walk through the new Coastal park of Western Liguria before your return home.

TOUR PACKAGE
4 days – 3 nights

1^st  day:
Afternoon arrival with accommodation at selected hotel.  After a dinner at the hotel restaurant, you’ll be free to test your luck in the gaming halls of the Casino Municipale of San Remo. Return to hotel and overnight stay.

2^nd day: The Valle Argentina: Triora and Taggia

In the morning, transfer to Triora, the… witches’ town!

No, it is not a legend, but documented history, as you will find out while visiting the Museo etnografico e della stregoneria, where you will find yourself in 4 sombre rooms which preserve the memory of a tragic chapter in local history. In 1558, in fact, the trial was held of  a group of thirteen women who were considered responsible for the famine that had plagued the region the previous year. The trial ended with their tragic condemnation to the stake for witchcraft.

Then you’ll visit this charming medieval town of the Ligurian Alps and have lunch in a local restaurant with tasting of typical dishes of the tradition.

In the afternoon, return to the coast and visit to the old town of   Taggia, where you can linger in the splendour of its characteristic streets and arches,  then on to the convent of  San Domenico and the prestigious art gallery, before heading into the area of the local shops where you will have the opportunity to purchase the typical canestrelli and anicini biscuits of  Taggia.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

3^rd day: The Valle Nervia – Dolceacqua and Apricale

In the morning, transfer to Dolceacqua, pearl of the Valle Nervia, and one of the first villages to earn the bandiera arancione.  Dolceacqua is a delightful medieval town, featuring an ancient humpbacked bridge and the ruins of the castle of the Doria.  Here, among artisan shops you can discover the true nectar of the Riviera: the Rossese di Dolceacqua, a prized red wine with an intense flavor.  At lunchtime you can enjoy the full range of wines of the Riviera, accompanied by delicious specialties of the valley.

In the afternoon visit to the old medieval borough of Apricale,  with its narrow streets clinging to the alpine slopes, where in season you will have the opportunity to taste a typical Ligurian snack:  pansarole con zabaglione. Return to your hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

4^th day: La Pigna, the historic center of San Remo

In the morning, a visit to the prized historic center of San Remo: la Pigna.  Dear to Italo Calvino,  who recounted it in his novel “Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno”, la Pigna even today retains much of the feel of a medieval quarter and affords the more inquisitive visitor the chance to find a hidden San Remo, a city of winding staircases and twisting alleyways, of arches and buttresses and of secluded and serene little squares. At the very top is the Sanctuary  of the Madonna della Costa, protector of seafarers, which towers above a spectacular panorama of the city.

You are free for lunch. Return to the point of origin follows.
