4. The treasures of Sanremo

Today we will take you to the discovery of Sanremo, which is not only the Town of the famous Song Festival but it is also rich in history and traditions with one of the most charming old town centres in Liguria - and with plenty of culinary delights, too.

During the morning visit to the precious old town centre of Sanremo: La Pigna. It was loved by the famous Italian writer Italo Calvino, who described this part of the town in "The Path of the Spider Nests". La Pigna still keeps today its charm as an ancient medieval village and tourists can find here an unknown Sanremo made of winding alleys, staircases, arches, buttresses, and quiet and rather secluded small squares. On top of La Pigna you can find the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Coast - the Protectress of sailors - which was built right on top of the hillock on which the old town stands and it overlooks a breathtaking scenery.

Lunch in a wine shop in the old town centre where you will be able to taste two real queens of Sanremo cuisine: sardenaira - an ancestor of pizza - and farinata.

In the afternoon you could opt for some shopping and a visit to the modern town centre, or what about a visit to its splendid gardens?
