In the morning visit to the remarkable historical center of San Remo: la Pigna. Dear to Italo Calvino, who recounts it in “The Path to the Nest of the Spider,” la Pigna still retains the charm of a medieval village and allows the more attentive visitor to discover an unprecedented San Remo, made up of winding streets and staircases, arches and buttresses, secluded and quiet little squares. At the summit, the Santuario della Madonna della Costa, protector of sailors, built at the very top of the old town, towers above a spectacular view.
Lunch at a wine shop in the historic center, where you can taste two authentic specialities of San Remo cuisine: the sardenaira, an ancient ancestor of the pizza, and the farinata.
Afternoon free for shopping and visiting the modern city center, or its beautiful gardens.
