We will bring you here to discover a place rich in colours, scents, tastes and traditions. You will want to treat yourselves to an unforgettable weekend in the hospitable and sunny Valle Argentina. Morning transfer to Triora, a small town boasting 23 mills and…witches! The story isn't based on legend but on documented history as demonstrates the museum to which it is dedicated. A feud with the Counts of Ventimiglia against the indestructible force of the Republic of Genoa, Triora has its historical origins in the first battles between these opposing forces. The old centre has preserved its medieval look with some interesting works of rustic architecture, notably the portals carved in slate. Other traces of ancient glory are among the most celebrated in Liguria Ponente and appreciated by an international crowd. Of particular interest will be a visit to the Ethnographic Museum and that of the witches, where you will have the opportunity to look in the 4 rooms that document the tragedy that struck local history in 1558. A court case against a group of thirteen women who were considered responsible for the famine that swept the area in the previous year. The section of the museum dedicated to ethnography includes tools used by local farmers, millers, carpenters and bakers and gives the visitor an interesting insight into how local life was lived. Lunch in a typical restaurant "La Colomba d'Oro", where you will be able to taste some local specialities. On the return journey a stop in the village of Molini di Triora to visit the workshop that specialises in slate work and stone carving. It is considered to be the "black gold of the Valle Argentina". Adjoining the workshop is an exhibition centre where sculptures in the local stone by a local artist are on display. Then on to Taggia which is well known for its olive oil making. Here you will visit the Casa Olearia Taggiasca, a young company that produces a superior quality extra virgin olive oil. The company is housed in a building of 200mq and allows you to visit its various sections such as the packaging and storage areas. At the end of the visit there is the opportunity to see the wonderful showroom where you can taste the extra virgin olive oil and some other typical products of our Riviera. Finally there is a visit to the historical centre and the monastery of San Domenico that is still in excellent condition. The monastery was founded by the Domenican Father Cristoforo of Milan in 1459 and contains wonderful works of art by Ludovico, Antonio and Francesco Bea, Giovanni Canavesio and Emanuele Maccari (Macario). |
