This is a tour that demonstrates that San Remo is not only the setting for the famous Song Festival, but also a city full of history and traditions, with one of the most charming historic centers in Liguria, one that is also rich in gastronomic goodies.
In the morning a visit to the remarkable historical center of San Remo: la Pigna. Dear to Italo Calvino, who describes it in “The Path to the Nest of the Spider,” la Pigna still retains the charm of a medieval village and allows the more attentive visitor to discover a lesser known San Remo, made up of winding streets, steps, arches and secluded, quiet little squares. The Santuario della Madonna della Costa, protector of sailors, built at the very top of the old town, provides a spectacular view over the city.
Lunch at a wine shop in the historic center, where you can taste two authentic specialities of San Remo cuisine: the sardenaira, an ancient ancestor of the pizza, and the farinata.
Afternoon free for shopping and visiting the modern city center, or its beautiful gardens.
